Yoshimi's early visual interests led her to study oil
painting, woodblock printing, papermaking and ikebana (flower
arranging). In 1975 she emigrated to Saskatchewan, Canada. While living
in Saskatchewan she further explored her passion and interest in art
and obtained her B.F.A. at the University of Saskatchewan, majoring in
sculpture and painting.
Throughout the 16 years in Canada, Yoshimi exhibited
her work, taught painting-on-silk and ikebana at community colleges and
continuing education classes at the University of Saskatchewan;
adjudicated art exhibitions and has been the recipient of many grants,
scholarships and awards.
Upon returning to Japan in 1991, Yoshimi set up a
studio in Kasama, Ibaraki and resides there currently. Since returning
to Japan she has exhibited her work in Japan, Canada, the United States
and Korea.
Her main medium is painting which includes acrylics,
pastels and sumi ink on canvas or paper, Yoshimi has also involved
herself in installation work. Sources of inspiration are nature, music,
literature and her involvement and experiences with people she
encounters.
For the past 21 years the theme of her work has been " Love and
Communication", which is based on her strong belief that all living
things require expressed love in order to flourish and grow.
